Amanda entered the area of sport psychology from a coaching background and is a former International GB tennis player. Prior to her career in sports psychology Amanda worked as a tennis coach and lecturer. In addition, Amanda is a qualified humanistic counsellor and has been involved in the applied sports psychology field for over 10 years.

Qualifications:

  • Kudos Worldwide Ltd., Diploma in Executive Performance Coaching in Business completed with Inside Out at Inside Out, accredited and meeting the stipulated International Coach Federation (ICF) core competencies, ethical guidelines and professional standards, 2007.
  • BASES Accreditation as an Applied Sports and Exercise Psychologist (first accredited 2000; Re-accredited 2006);
  • A Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Sport Science from Brunel University (Sport Psychology);
  • A Bachelor of Arts BA with Honours from Brunel University (Sport Science (sport psychology) & English Literature.
  • A fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM);
  • British Olympic Association (BOA) Advisory Committee Member (since 1998)
  • Humanistic Counselling certificate & qualification (UKCP)
  • LTA level 1 coaching certificate


Sport and Exercise Psychology Experience as a Performer:
Amanda has worked in a variety of sports, across a range of sporting levels. Amanda was formerly the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) South-East Region Sport Psychologist working with the Men’s performance GB ATP squads. Amanda was formerly the Middlesex LTA sport psychologist working with the juniors and implementing the sport psychology support and educational sport psychology support for over 5 years. Whilst at the University of North London (UNL) Amanda was a Lecturer and the Subject Leader in sport psychology. She was then appointed the LTA South-East region sport psychologist working with the performance youth and men’s squads with a world ranking. Amanda also worked with International tri-athletes, Professional Golfers, Olympic athletes and professional cricketers during this time.

Amanda has worked with Southampton Football Club as the club’s first team sport psychologist (season 2001-2002) alongside Gordon Strachan whilst Southampton were in the Premiership. Southampton finished the 2001-2002 season 11th; this is their second highest ever finishing position in the history of the club. She then worked within professional cricket and is the sports psychologist for Surrey County Cricket Club and Essex County Cricket Club whereby Amanda has been the sports psychologist for both clubs since 2002 and works with the professionals in both team currently (Surrey and Essex CCC) and throughout the academies as well. Amanda also works with GB Olympic and world-class athletes in swimming and athletics and also currently works with professional male and female football players. Amanda has worked with ATP professional tennis players and was the Stella Artois sport psychologist for three years at the Queen’s Club.

She is a sessional lecturer at London Southbank University (LSBU) in sport and exercise psychology and also lectures at Birkbeck College (University of London) in psychology. Amanda also trains probationary sports psychologists and runs a Humanistic & Gestalt supervised experience program for probationary BASES applied sport and exercise psychologists in central London. She is on the BASES steering committee(s) for both the BASES psychology interest group as well as on the BASES-BPS Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology Joint Committee Meeting. Finally, Amanda is also the sports psychology editor for Cricket World Magazine and regularly writes for Cricket World as a sports psychology features writer.

Amanda’s specialist areas of support are:

  • Dealing with Underperformance and Overtraining Syndrome (UUPS).
  • Mood and emotional management.
  • Self-awareness and individual and team preparation.

Amanda has presented at a number of International sport psychology and sport science conferences and has made many radio and TV appearances as a feature sport psychologist.

Personal: Amanda was formerly an International Great Britain tennis player and a Great Britain ranked tennis player. Amanda had an International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world ranking as well as a national junior ranking and played in the Bunders League (the German league) for Bremen 1896 as their International overseas number one player. Amanda attended Millfield School where she represented them at both Hockey and Tennis. Amanda ran in and completed the London Marathon in April 2006 in 5hrs 19mins for the charity The Rainbow Trust. Amanda regularly plays tennis and real tennis at Queen’s Club London and represent the ladies first team at Queens Club in both the National and Middlesex leagues. Amanda also enjoys sailing, skiing, art, theatre, film, and photography. She is the Queens Club Doubles champion for 2007.
